El 24/05/2017, en Oviedo (Asturias - España), se concedía el Premio  Princesa de Asturias, de los deportes 2017, a la selección de Rugby de Nueva Zelanda, más conocida, como los "All Blacks". Los “All Blacks” han realizado giras por todo el mundo, pero nunca han jugado en Asturias, a pesar que en la gira que hicieron por Europa en 1924, se produce una reunión del Sr. Samuel Frederick Wilson (Christchurch  - Riccarton, Christchurch 29/04/1938, 59 años) (jefe de la expedición y Presidente de la Federación de Rugby de Canterbury) con el presidente de la Federación Española de Rugby (Jaime Camino), donde le dice que se juega mucho en el Norte de España, Wilson le promete que en la próxima gira jugarán en España, ya habían hecho otra gira en 1905, el presidente de la federación Española se refería más bien al País Vasco, que a Asturias, que por esas fechas en los periódicos asturianos, aparecían noticias de los partidos de rugby en otros lugares, y se hablaba de los “All Blacks”.

Lo más cercano a rugby en Asturias, era unos anuncios de coches, de una marca que se llamaba rugby, el primer partido de rugby en Madrid fue el 20/05/1923 (La Voz 21/05/1923) entre el Biarritz Olympique y Stadoeste de Tarbes, ese año nacía la Federación Española de Rugby; en Nueva Zelanda, el Manawatu Time (Palmerston North) el 26/01/1926, reflejaba disturbios en partidos de rugby en San Sebastián (País Vasco – España) y la actuación del Gobernador, como que la policía protegiera a los jugadores.

Región 12/09/1924 (Asturias)

El 22/04/1893, en Wellington se produce la 1ª reunión anual de la Federación de Rugby de Nueva Zelanda http://nzrugby.co.nz/about-us/history/our-history , y en ella se decide el traje del equipo, sería jersey negro con la hoja del helecho plata, gorra negra con monograma plata, pantalón corto blanco, y medías negras. La Federación de Rugby de Nueva Zelanda (New Zealand Rugby Union) nació el 16/04/1892 con la unión de Federaciones Territoriales. Ya, al formarse la Federación de Wellington (Wellington Rugby Union Football Associate) el 20/10/1879, el uniforme elegido fue jersey, pantalón corto y medías negras, gorra de terciopelo negro y oro, con el monograma en la frente.
El 30/11/1892 partía del puerto de El Ferrol (Galicia - España), la corbeta Nautilus de la Armada Española, para dar la vuelta al mundo, como aprendizaje de los guardiamarinas de la Armada, al mando como Comandante iba, el inventor y marino asturiano, Fernando Villamil Fernández-Cueto (Serantes, Castropol, Asturias 23/11/1845 - Santiago de Cuba 03/07/1898). El 03/07/1893, la Corbeta llegaba al puerto de Wellington (Nueva Zelanda), el 08/09/1893, salía del puerto de Lyttelton (Nueva Zelanda) en dirección hacia América del Sur (Callao - Perú); Villamil dejó reflejado el viaje en un libro "Viaje de circunnavegación de la Corbeta Nautilus”, los periódicos de Nueva Zelanda se hicieron eco del libro, en concreto, de los capítulos dedicados a su tierra.

Villamil elogió Nueva Zelanda, recomendando a quienes tuvieran dinero, hicieran un viaje turístico, sin prisa, narra los efectos en la fauna local, de la llegada de los Europeos, se interesó por todo, y en especial por los Maories, queriendo visitarlos y recoger su cultura, cosa que hizo, con un viaje en tren a Hasting, a la casa del Irlandés Mr. Donnelly, casado con una Maori, Arini, sobrina del último rey destronado por los ingleses.

En su libro, Villamil dice "Debo decir que a los Maroies les llamaba la atención, ver que los Españoles leíamos correctamente sus escritos, debido a que todas las letras y silabas se pronuncian del mismo modo en ambas lenguas, si bien ellos carecen de algunas consonantes".
En esos 2 meses, visitó factorías de carne congelada http://historiasjasm.blogspot.com.es/2016/09/neozelandes-aprende-espanol-new.html , carreras de caballos, conciertos, y muchas fiestas y bailes, eran tantas que lo manifestó en su libro, con una expresión muy española "éramos pocos y parió mi abuela", y las bellezas naturales de las islas, incluso el paisaje le recordaba a su Asturias, lo que no se menciona es que asistiera a ningún partido de rugby.
En Nueva Zelanda, había cónsul español, Francisco Arenas (Barcelona 1842 - Christchurch 16/01/1909), en concreto en Christchurch (Distrito de Canterbury), en dicha ciudad vivía una Gaditana, Anita Banfield (Cádiz  – Christchurch 05/05/1923, 64 años ) dedicada a la pintura, casada con Albert Gundersen (Bergen Noruega ¿? – Riccarton, Christchurch 06/05/1911) cónsul Noruego, que empezó en Nueva Zelanda con negocios de joyería. De Christchurch la corbeta se trajo galletas, que comieron durante el resto de la travesía, no perdieron sus propiedades, y resultaron mejores, que otras compradas después, más caras, Villamil no dice el nombre de la marca, pero por la prensa Neozelandesa sabemos que se trataban de las galletas de Aulsebrook & Co, en España,  incluso parece, que a la llegada de la expedición, fueron examinadas por la Marina Española y obtuvieron una excepcional nota, pero para desgracia de la empresa, que hoy no existe, no se produjo ninguna relación comercial.

On 24/05/2017, in Oviedo (Asturias - Spain), it was granted of Princess of Asturias Awards for Sports 2017, the New Zealand National Rugby Team, known as the "All Blacks". The New Zealand Rugby Union was born on 16/04/1892 with the union of territorial Federations. Already, at birth the Wellington Rugby Union Football Associate on 20/10/1879, the uniform selected was black jersey, knickerbockers, and stockings, with black velvet and gold skull-cap, with monogram on the front.

On 30/11/1892, the Corvette Nautilus of the Spanish Navy left the harbour of El Ferrol (Galicia - Spain), to go around the world, as learning of the midshipmen of the Navy, in charge as Commander was going, the Asturian inventor and naval officer, Fernando Villamil Fernandez-Cueto (Serantes, Castropol, Asturias 23/11/1845 – Santiago de Cuba 03/07/1898). On 03/07/1893, the Corvette arrived to the harbour of Wellington (New Zealand), on 08/09/1896, went out of the port of Lyttelton (New Zealand), in direction towards South America (Callao – Peru); Villamil reflected the trip in a book “Travel of circumnavigation of the Corvette Nautilus”, the New Zealanders newspapers were echoed of the book, in particular, of the chapters dedicated to its land.

Villamil praised New Zealand, recommending whom they had money, make a tourist trip, without hurry, he narrates the effects in the local wildlife, of the arrival of Europeans, he was interested throughout, and in special by Maories, wanted to visit them and to collect their culture, thing that he made, with a trip in train to Hasting, to the home of Irish, Mr. Donnelly, married with a Maori, Arini, niece of the last King dethroned by the English.
