Tiburones, cuidado, Manuel Rendueles
Sharks , care, Manuel Rendueles

I apologize for my English

Manuel Rendueles was born in Gijon (Asturias – Spain) on 1873, Rendueles went to the United States at the age of 14, and on 1894 he became an American citizen. One of the biggest problems that shark industry had, it was to extract its skin and later it use because it is very rough, the skin is by overlapping like scales microscopic teeth (denticles), finally the problem was solved in 1919, and in the 20s, there are two methods Allen Rogers (1920) and Theodore Kohler (1925), curiously, in 2014 Harvard scientists create artificially the complex swimsuit of the shark, and they prove that lets you swim fates. In this moment is when Rendueles is introduced into the business, as he said “by accident. A friend of a friend introduced him to the business”, he will become an expert in sharks, and He calls himself “sharkologist”, in 1925 the Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover (he was 31th President of United States 04/03/1929, he was President when crack 1929) he asked him that he gave lesson in sharklology in his factory of Big Pine (Florida) to the chief of Manila Bureau of fisheries, who later established the industry in the Philippines. Shark is used everything, Rendueles said that he was the first to devise a good method for salting shark flesh the way codfish is salted, He sold liver oil (useful in paints and in medicine), residue of the liver (mixed with sawdust (is use to eliminate swamp mosquitoes), eyes (buttons), fins, shark ground (fertilizer), the dark part of shark meat shredded and dried (fed to chickens), shark backbones (walking sticks), teeth… He had factories in Florida, Cuba, México, Santo Domingo y Haiti, he sold in Africa (tons of it for natives building a railroad in the Belgian Congo), China… From 1923 to 1926 Rendueles captured 30000 sharks, in their stomachs found of everything, even a baby’s rubber nipple. Despite the dangerous work, he has been bitten only once, by an oversight.
He was one of the founders of the Chamber and was its secretary for the past 18 years.
As curiosity, in the “Trow’s general directory of the broroughs of Manhattan and Bronx, city of New York” of 01/08/1912 in its page 1287 appears “Rendueles, Manuel broker h 2081 Ryer Av.”, I don’t know if he is the same person, of shark of Wall Street, to fish sharks.

On 25/05/1940 he married Muriel Ripperger, she wrote the column “woman’s day” in the “Woman’s Day” magazine, they got divorced, they live in 80 East end av. To end, I will transcribe Manuel Rendueles’s philosophy “His idea is that if you are good at playing the piano and poor at philosophy, you should forget the piano for a while and read up on Kant and Bergson and Spencer so your faculties will “develop armoniously”".
